The Practice

Solent Speech Therapy

We are Rosemary Bazley and Anita Bennett, two enthusiastic and dedicated speech and language therapists working at Solent Speech and Language. We manage our caseloads so that we have sufficient time to provide quality therapy to each child. We plan therapy to meet the child’s specific needs and deliver therapy in ways designed to engage the child and maximise their progress.

We use a variety of therapy approaches, usually combining them together to help the child make the best possible progress. For example we might combine non-directive therapy with Makaton signing for a child with early language and communication difficulties, or combine oral-motor therapy, articulation therapy and Cued Articulation signs for a child with speech sound difficulties.

We work with children with:

  • Speech difficulties
  • Global developmental delay
  • Language disorder / specific language impairment
  • Autistic spectrum disorders
  • Language delay
  • Social communication difficulties
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Complex needs
  • Down Syndrome

Which therapist you see will depend on your child’s difficulties and the specialist expertise of the therapists and also on availability. Because we limit the number of children we work with, we sometimes have a waiting list for assessment and therapy. We will advise you of the anticipated length of wait, if there is one, when you contact us for an initial discussion.

Most of the children we see come to us by word of mouth recommendation from other parents, nurseries or schools. We work directly for parents, but are also engaged to work with children by case management companies, schools and Local Authorities.

We have a clinic in Bedhampton, with a child friendly, distraction free therapy room. We also see children in schools and nurseries. You can contact us by phone (02392 366409) or email. It is always useful to have a chat on the phone so that your questions can be answered and we can get a real understanding of your child’s difficulties and the current situation. There is no charge for this initial discussion.

The practice is open for assessment and therapy during school terms. If you wish to contact us during school holidays, please do leave a message or send an email and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

We work with children, families, nurseries and schools in the area around Bedhampton, south to Portsmouth, Southsea and Hayling Island, north to Waterlooville, west to Fareham and east to Fishbourne.

January 2025 update: We have some availability for taking on new children for therapy. Please contact Rosemary by phone or email if you would like to enquire.
